interview thank you note?

Hi,

If i did an interview and i didnt particulary like the interviewer or interview didnt go great or i dont have anything special to add do i need to write the interviewer a thank you note if im sure the person will see right through it as being void of any real content?

yes write it, thank them for their time, their insights, whatever

you don't have to.

The thank-you not isn't something you do to kiss up or get points. It's simply what mannerly people do when someone does them a favor. Someone's taking their time and energy to interview you is a favor whether or not you liked them or feel that you did well in the interview.

I worked in a job that required me to do "favors" for people on a regular basis. Members of the public would ask for something and I'd do it. Thank you notes were so rare and so treasured. Even if things didn't turn out perfectly, it's still something that you asked for and someone has given up their time and used their abililties (whether you see it or not) for you. Please write them.

even if it didn't go well from your perspective, write the note -- it's good manners and a classy thing to do.

"Thank you so much for the interview. It was very enlightening. It was great to hear about (pick anything they mentioned). If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me."
Sincerely,

Thats all it has to be if it wasn't a great interview. Notice you are not lying. It was enlightening...the person didn't do a great interview....you learned that is possible!!!!
