Any tips on how to prepare for an alumni interview? Is this simply a chance for me to ask questions about Dartmouth? Should I be prepared with answers for why I want to go there, where else I'm applying etc.?

I did my Yale interview on a whim and it went really well. I mean, I planned a few weeks in advance, but I wasn’t doing mock interviews with my mom or anything. Your interviewer hasn’t read your app, but the notes she will send to dartmouth should jive with the personality that they’re getting on your application. Be yourself, but be poised and don’t try too hard to sound intelligent. I have friends who go to ivies and are, obviously, very smart. However, they’re some of the silliest and goofiest people I know. Just be mature and be yourself, but don’t feel like you have to impress them or anything like that.

MichaelS is dead-on. Look presentable, but don’t overdress - you probably don’t want to be dressed more formally than the interview. A hoodie is too casual, but a suit is almost certainly too much. Don’t stress about it, and be sure to ask the interviewer plenty of questions - not only is this an opportunity to learn firsthand about the school, but also to impress your interviewer and show genuine interest in Dartmouth. A good interviewee can turn the tables on the interviewer with everyone better off as a result.
