i got a call today morning from an alum who wanted to interview tmw…so what should i expect?? i dont expect her to grill me on current events or anything, but i dont expect it to be BS either…so? also, wats appropriate attire…im thinkin something preppy, but parents keep telling me to wear dress pants/shirt…??

Dress depends on where the interview takes place. If it's at a home, you can get away with something more casual. At an office, go with khakis and a nice button down shirt.

My interviewer briefly covered my interests (in terms of what I want to study and what I want to do outside of the classroom), my reasons for choosing Brown, and a little on what I am currently doing in high school. That took all of 20 minutes tops. The rest of the hour, she opened herself to any questions I had.

son's interview was similar to daveb. They met in the library of our local town. Son wore nice slacks and button down shirt. Interviewer asked about his interests, what he liked to study, why he wanted Brown and then asked my son if he had any questions. I really believe the interview is to put a "face" on the college-it allows the applicant a chance to ask personal questions about the college experience and just make the whole process more personal. Don't stress, be yourself and have fun. Good luck!
P.S. My son said his interviewer had very little in common with my son, didn't participate in the same activities that my son intended to partake in, didn't study the same courses that my son intended to take, and my son still got in! So all the stressing over how important the interview is, is really not that pertinent.

My son had his at the interviewer's business office. I'd say my son was more excited by other interviews than this one - not sure why that was (don't think they had much in common or maybe because it was his last interview) but it didn't matter. My son always felt Brown was a good fit and he was accepted (and he loves it). For interviews, he usually wore docker type pants with a sweater and casual dress shoes, no sneakers. When all his interviews were done, he realized they weren't stressful at all. Just be yourself.

i had my interview in starbucks! she told me to just come as i was after school, it was very informal.

i just had my interview with brown. it lasted about an hour. is that a good duration? cuz i know a friend of mine had an interview with another school for 2 and half hours! but anyways, it was at caribou. We sat outside and it was really laid back. He asked me about 3 questions-Why brown? What do i plan to study? and what other schools i was interested in. That's about it. I kinda wish he had asked me more questions. Then we just started talking about his experiences at brown, what he liked about it, and where he is now.

That's what it is supposed to be in terms of time and content. Although for me the question concerning other schools I am interested in came at the end, and she said it was off the record. The interview is not very important, as I'm sure your interviewer explained. It may help if you are neck and neck with another candidate and the other had a bad interview, otherwise it probably won't come up.
