So…I just got an e-mail today regarding an interview with an alumnus from a college I applied to. Great, right? Except I already had an interview with that college. This isn’t for a scholarship or anything, so it’s not like I’m moving on to another round. Does this mean my other interview forgot to send their report or something? What should I do?
You could reply that you already had an interview, do they want you to have another.
@vonlost My first interview was in a law office building with a bunch of different alumni interviewing applicants. This one is more one-on-one as the alumnus is supposed to email me directly. Technically the actual alumnus hasn’t emailed me directly, but the undergraduate admissions emailed me to tell me to expect an email from this alumnus. I don’t know why they’d want me to have another.
It could be that the committee chair made an error or the original interviewer hasn’t submitted the report yet. I would politely reply to this interviewer that you had an interview, and include the day and the name of the person you met with. The new interviewer should be able to alert the appropriate people and get it figured out.
Also, I just looked up the person they named as my interviewer, and it was the same girl who interviewed me last time while I was in the law office building. I remember her face, and her name is extreeeemely unique. It’s definitely the same girl, but why would they want to set up another interview?
I think it was an error on the part of the interviewer. Being that it’s the same person, I would ask if there was a reason for a second interview but that you thoroughly enjoyed speaking with her on ______ (insert the date and maybe the place to jog her memory).
I get assigned a group of students at one time. I have a system of moving students into a separate folder after we’ve made contact but I can see if it’s a very busy alum that mistakes could happen.
Don’t stress, she probably just made an error.
@momofsenior1 Yeah, and she just graduated this past year. This is her first batch of interviews she told me, so I can definitely understand if she might have made an error. She was incredibly nice and helpful in my interview with her. So far, only the office of undergraduate admissions has emailed me. Should I wait a few hours to see if she emails me before responding to the ua office?
My bet is your interviewer hasn’t submitted her report yet so the university doesn’t know it happened.
If you still have the interviewer’s contact information, maybe it’s worth emailing and letting her know that the university contacted you again about doing an interview. If she doesn’t respond, then it’s totally fine to reply to the admissions email that you already met with this alumna, with the date, and location of the meeting. Admissions will figure it out with the interviewer.
