interview: what if i never return the call?

I got a call a message on my phone from my Harvard interviewer to set something up. I personally have been extremely depressed lately, and the last thing i care about right now is harvard. i know that nothing i can tell this guy can really help my chances or anything, so yeah, i dont know what to do. i mean, i know once i get out of this state of mind all i'll be thinking is about harvard, almost compulsively. so idk what to do. if i never return the call, will it be considered as if i declined the invitation to interview, or will it be like someone who never got the chance to interview?

what do you want us to tell you? to not call back? lol

I know this probably doesn't make you feel any better, but...

Suck it up and do it.

Always respond to calls. That is etiquette. Have the courtesy to respond to the message in a timely manner; otherwise it will reflect badly on you and the admissions committee may hear about it. Call back the interviewer, be respectful, and tell him/her that you are unable to do an interview for health reasons (no need to tell them it's your mental health that's ailing, you can tell them you're sick and that wouldn't really be lying in a harmful way). You can also try rescheduling your interview for a later date (for ex., if your interviewer wanted to meet you this weekend, you could ask to wait a few more weeks, like 3). If your interviewer then says that that's not possible, courteously let them know that it will not be possible to conduct an interview. Courteous communication reflects well on you; refusing to communicate reflects poorly. It would certainly be worse to ignore and disrespect an interviewer than to decline an interview for personal reasons.

ok, so I sucked it up Thank God. When I called him he told me that he was about to call the school to see if they had given him the right number.

He told me it was going to be very informal, and I'll be at his house tomorrow at 4:30 : )

Thank God I decided to stop being an idiot.

Yay meadweb! You'll be fine. I hope whatever has been depressing you lately can partially resolve itself. I hope you're feeling OK and good luck at your interview!

Thanks! : )
