I got an email for alumni interview. Did anyone else get it? Just wondering. Is there any thread here which can help me with the interview?

I already had my interview. You will find that the it is very informal.
There are some questions that Harvard asked the interviewer to ask you, but it's just a conversation about yourself. What better conversation can you have?

My daughter's advice about the interview: Have something to say.

Well you won't get the question my son got "Why didn't you apply early action?"

My son found the interview fairly comfortable. The interviewer spent a fair amount of time selling him on Harvard over MIT (my son's first choice - which he told them.) He did get in - perhaps in small part because he was honest with that rather uncomfortable question.

I think Harvard is the only one who does not mind you do not have Harvard as first choice. Yale will reject you for that.

uml1958: how did you know that?

"Yale will reject you for that"

That explains why I did not get an interview. I did not put Yale as 1st choice in profile. However, that profile question is not supposed to go to Yale.

How does yale know my choices? Where do they get that information?

You might not have gotten an interview for a variety of reasons. It's not linked in any way to the chance or likelihood of you getting in.

AMD,

If you apply early to Yale, it will assume Yale is your first choice. Unless students with similar stats from your school consistently chosen Harvard and Princeton over Yale in previous years.

"I did not put Yale as 1st choice in profile. However, that profile question is not supposed to go to Yale."

Wait, what profile is this?

They're talking about Questbridge.

Profile = CSS Profile which you have to submit for financial aid.

There are no first choices on the CSS Profile; it's Questbridge.

anyway, somebody said that if you apply to yale EA they will assume it is your first choice.....they may have assumed that in the past, they probably won't this year.

I told my Yale interviewer (three years ago) that I had gotten into Harvard EA... Dumb move (had to listen to an hour long speech about why Yale was better than Harvard, that completely convinced me not to go to Yale), but I got into Yale nonetheless.
