Pressing question about Interviews

Two of my friends recently got an email offering an interview for Yale admissions. I did not get any email, even though I have submitted my application and I go to the same school as these friends. Then today, one of those friends got a call from Harvard to set up an interview. I still have not gotten a phone call from Harvard, and I applied, same school, etc. Is there something wrong with my applications? On the portal page for Harvard Admissions, it says "All Required Documents Have Been Received," so I think my application is okay. What's going on? Am I worrying needlessly? An interview is very important to me, so any help is greatly appreciated.

I believe that interviews are assigned according to the date your application was complete-- there’s no pre-screening involved, and interviews are pretty straight-forward on the first-come first-contacted front.

Does this mean I won’t get an interview at Harvard at all? Or could admissions still call me later?

It’ll depend on the availability of alumni interviewers in your area, but the closer to Jan 1 you applied, the less of a chance you’ve got. To get an idea of the scarcity of interviews, see this excellent post here[/URL”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/yale-university/1441293-likelihood-fewer-alumni-interviews-class-2013-seniors.html]here.

Zodo-I agree with the above posters. It could be based on when you turned in the application, or it may be that they will call you later. Wo really knows? But from reading many posts, I’m not really sure how helpful the interview (for Ivies) really is, especially when you read what interviewers say (my impression is that while the interviewer may think you are great, the ADCOM may think otherwise).

Thank you for the responses! This does help

It could also just depend on your interviewer not responding as quickly to the assignment. In my area, we recently assigned roughly 50 applicants in one batch, but those interviewers who are not as technologically dependent might not realize as immediately.

My son sent in his App on December 31. He got a request for an interview this Monday.

Second what huinsider said. Some interviewers take longer to schedule than others. Also, make sure you check frequently the email you provided to the admissions office. Check spam folder, and make sure you did type your email right on the application.

Yes. A prompt response to emails from interviewers is a good way to leave a good first impression. Waiting for a week before responding is not good. Writing emails with many grammatical errors + typos is not good either.

Like other folks say on this board, first double check to make sure the email didn’t end up in your spam folder.

Secondly, understand that interviewers have a busy schedule themselves too, so their response time might vary.
