Interview

What questions did the interviewer ask?

Stanford doesn't give interviews...

this is the first year any applicants will get an interview so I doubt anyone can tell you.

Stanford does interviews now?

Where did you find out about that?

Wait...Stanford+Interviews? WHAT?!?

I'm not sure how I feel about this...

Admissions looks to add interviews - The Stanford Daily Online
They're starting a pilot program this year. I'll be looking forward to 15+ years later when I get to interview you anxious hopefuls.

OVAL FAQs : Stanford University

"For the 2008-09 admission season the Office of Undergraduate Admission will offer an optional alumni interview to applicants attending high school in Atlanta, Denver, London, New York City, Philadelphia and Portland."

You guys should really explain your questions before you post. I almost threw up thinking about an interview! jk

yes, we Californians are safe!

isn't that kind of weird though? Seeing as how Stanford IS located in California?...
haha

actually its probably because stanford is in cali and receives so many cali applicants that its not in the pilot program! I think something like half of all applicants are from cali!

PS: I apologize for not being more specific in my post. I didn't want to give anyone a heart attack ;)

^^ Dean Shaw actually said that the % applicants from California has been dropping and is somewhere in the 30s now.

oh wow well I guess his efforts have really been paying off. I'm impressed!

Here's where it's from:

In terms of geographic distribution a slide illustrated the home state of the applicants by region over the last 3 years. California as a source of applicants declined from 41 to 35%. All of the other regions were less than 10%, except for the South, steady at 14-15%, and mid-Atlantic, up from 10.4% to 11.9%.

Faculty Senate minutes - June 12, 2008 meeting

This might be a stupid question, but here it goes anyway. Since more than 30% of apps are from California, and other regions are about 10%, does this mean that someone from NY or Pennsylvania for example has 3 times as high of a chance of getting in than a Californian?

No... search the forum for "geography." It really doesn't help much.
