Interview

What's the admissions interview like?
Thanks

Wake doesn't do interviews unless you specifically request one. And if you did, I can't answer that as most students do not go that route.

My s did an interview. He applied and was accepted ed. We were told that it was not required but did help with admissions. We just scheduled one when he did a campus visit. I think they do not do them after Nov. It took about an hour. No way to "prepare"....just be yourself. It was very non-threating. The interviewer seemed genuinly interested in him as a person.

D just had an interview on Thursday. Their website says that interviews are "evaluative". That is a a gross underestimate of what she was put through. Can we say inquisition and interrogation? She has had 2 other interviews at both Rice and WashU that were very pleasant. She came out from that interview with her eyes popping out of her head! This is a kid who is very experienced at forensics doing both OO and impromptu speaking, and she was really unhappy with how the interview was conducted compared to other schools. There is no way you can prepare for it, but all I can say is they will grill you on what you put on the questionnaire they ask you to fill out and be able to explain in detail what you wrote down!
Good luck on this one!
Their supplemental application is not an easy one to complete either.

I went for an interview in August. They just ask you why you want to attend Wake and what you think about certain topics. They also ask what you think about current issues in the news. I talked about alternative engery and China becoming a threat. Don't stress too much about it. They are there to get to know you. They will not kill you. JUST BE YOURSELF. Good luck! Also, this is a time for you to shine. So don't talk about your grades. Show them what you will do to enrich the Wake community.

I got my acceptance letter to Wake Forest yesterday.

Mahmoud Ahmed
Wake Forest '13

I'm glad yours was so nice and cordial! D was not that lucky! If anything, this guy did not really try to know her as a person and challenged many of her answers. Totally out of line.

My daughter also had a very nice interview. Congrats, Mahmoud!

Mahmoud - did you apply ED? If not, how were you already accepted?

'Also - if anyone could speak to the merit scholarships available at Wake
daughter very interested - but have heard they are impossible to get in academics

From what I have heard, I wouldn't get my hope up about a merit scholarship at Wake

Is anyone getting the feeling that interviews are taking the place of SAT scores?

This is from their Admissions Website --

"Due to our test-optional policy, interviews are strongly recommended and are evaluative."

The juxtaposition of "test optional" and "interviews strongly recommended" points to the conclusion you have drawn.
