I'm planning a day trip to Pomona College for a campus tour and information session. I'd also like to have an interview as it is recommended.

Is it normal to have an interview even before I have applied (though I am almost positive that I will)? If so, how do I go about scheduling it? Should I just call them up or write a letter or something?

I think that's what most people who don't live in CA do, since summer's the most convenient time to visit. I'm interviewing next week, and I'm going to apply in the fall.

If you live in Southern CA, you're expected to interview on campus. Outside that area, you can interview with an alum interviewer. D could have interviewed her junior year when we visited the campus but felt that was a bit premature. She was very happy with her alumnus interviewer who had been a senior interviewer on campus. You can either call or e-mail the Admissions Office to schedule an interview.

Like everyone else says, definitely call or email. Having not yet applied doesn't matter. I'm a bigger fan of the phone call. The admin./staff are great. If I might also suggest try to go when school is in session and you'll get a better feel. If you could do an overnight rather than day trip, all the better. Best of luck.
