Interviewer dropped the ball

The interviewer contacted me 11 days ago and said he was away and would call the following week to schedule an appointment. He never called. Then I called him based on the call back number on my phone and he said he was busy with his kids and would call back the following day- which he didn’t. What should I do?

There’s still plenty of time (about a month) left to get an interview in, so don’t worry. Interviewers have busy lives with a lot of professional and personal demands, so sometimes delays occur and it slips people’s minds. I’d give it another day and then call him back. As an interviewer, I’d appreciate somebody taking the initiative to reach out honestly. If he doesn’t answer when you call, leave a message saying to either call you back, or if he prefers, send you an email to coordinate a time to get together since you guys have been playing phone tag unsuccessfully up to now. Again, nothing to worry about.

but i did call him back and he said he would call tomorrow and didn’t. Wouldn’t it seem pushy if i called again?

Not if he said something that he didn’t follow through on. Just give it a bit more time to see if he initiates contact, and if you don’t hear anything for a bit longer, then give him a ring and just say you’re really excited to learn more about Duke. I realize as applicant sometimes you guys analyze the tiniest details, but it’s really not a big deal. Being proactive is a good thing as long as you are able to speak confidently and maturely.
