Interviews (telephone, skype)

Who, at CC, had an interview via Skype or telephone? How did it go? I have always been having Skype interviews and they usually go fine. However, I just had an interview with an admission officer via telephone and it was horrible. It lasted for only about thirty minutes and it was VERY awkward and weird. Because I was not able to see his face, it felt like if I was just talking on my own and I sometimes wondered whether if he was listening. Future applicants who are assigned a telephone interview should most definitely change it to a Skype interview.

Also, what will the admission officers think if I don't ask any question? I never have any questions and I usually just ask weird questions that just pop into my mind at that moment. What do you usually ask? Can anyone tell me good questions to ask?

Just curious, I don’t know they offer interviews when the application season is over.
As far as I’m concerned, there is no formula as to how long an interview should last. It totally depends on your interviewer and his schedule, actually. Also, keep in mind that phone interviews are usually shorter than face-to-face ones, because it’s harder to establish a bond over the phone I suppose.
Besides, I think the point is that the interview should flow smoothly, and you shouldn’t feel forced to ask them questions because everyone told you that you have to in order to show your interests. If you have shown interests during the interview itself, don’t try to stretch an interview just because you’ve heard that long interviews are more desirable.
I guess that your applications are complete now. Best of luck getting into the school of your choice!

@ assign: What do you mean by -as the application season is over? You mean the deadline has already passed? Because there are no representatives in my area, they said they would arrange one for me after February and that I shouldn’t contact for it. So, I waited till they sent me an email.
Thank you for your insight, assign. I agree that the length of the interview isn’t everything but, as from my experience, interviews that last longer always end up being really good. How were your interviews?
Thank you, I hope you will get into your first choice, also. (I don’t have any first choice school, though. I can’t decide between four.)

OMG. I just found out that I was initially supposed to have an interview with the director of admissions. Because the email was sent to my mother’s email, I found about it today - just after having an interview with a different person from the same school. I guess he will be too busy to have an interview with a student who has already had an interview. But, is the director of admissions any different? If only, my mom checked her email a week ago… Who knows if I would have ended up having a way better interview - my internet connection wouldn’t have become lost and I would have had one via Skype.
Well, anyway, I have already had my interview… So…

30min isn’t bad at all. I have heard 10min phone interview. That is pretty much just for the formality.

I really think schools (some have already done so) should pre-screen oversea applicants in stead of phone interviewing EVERYONE, which often raising the hope of many candidates when actually there is little.

I had all of my interviews over the phone, they lasted an average of thirty minutes. As long as it flows well, I don’t think the time matters.

if u do skype make sure you turn it OFF when you’re done. i got to SPS and i heard about this one girl who had a skype interview this year and she didn’t turn off the skype after her interview so her interviewer heard her talk to her mom about how the interview went afterwords

That would be really embarrasing especially if she said something bad. I am glad I traveled to the school.
