Interviews

How much weight does the Brandeis Admissions Interview have? If I am not mistaken I have heard that it holds quite a bit of weight, much more then most other Universities.

I was under the impression that it doesn't hold barely any at all. Since they're not required, they don't weigh it as much.

Not to mention that I definitely wouldn't have gotten in based on my interview. She didn't even ask me any questions, just what activities I do. I mean granted it's not going to look good if you completely bomb it but it's not something that I would stress out about.

I think the interview is part of the 40% that also includes EC's, essays, and recs. But anyways, I just had the most awesome interview, we talked for two hours, it was rediculously awesome.

I think if you have neutral-OK interview it has no effect on your admission--except for the fact that you "showed interest" by showing up. However, if you really hit it off well with the interviewer or an impressive piece of info about you emerges--that could really help your chances. I think it is rare for an interview to really hurt your chances--unless you ask the classic "What was the name of this college again?"

As somebody who worked as an admissions volunteer, I can tell you that the Brandeis interview is incredibly important. Unlike some schools, the admissions committee is not merely looking for somebody with a perfect transcript and great scores. They want students who are thoughtful, engaging and unique. The interview is also interpreted as a sign of interest. If a prospective student takes the time to visit the campus, officers will take their application more seriously.
