Interviews

Are interviews required. Visited the school but forgot to have an interview. Applying ed

No, but they can help.

Agree with above. Interviews are not required, but they certainly could help in that it shows your interest in the school. I’m pretty convinced that my son’s interview with one of the admissions officers clearly helped in getting him into the school- his ACT score was a bit low (30), but he made up for it with his personality.

If you’re worried, you could check to see if alumni interviews are available in your area, but applying ED is the ultimate display of interest. If you interview well, it couldn’t hurt. I’m personally the kind of person who gets really nervous at the idea of interviewing, so it was in my benefit not to have to do an interview.

The Admissions Dept will have a particular representative who has responsibility for the geographic area for your HS. You can ask who that is and then make contact. Introduce yourself and talk about your situation. Find out if the rep is going to visit your school or be in the area to give you a chance to introduce yourself. If that doesn’t work, find out from your rep if you can call to talk. The on-campus “interview” for my daughter was all of 20-25 mins–mostly ‘getting to know you’ type thing. I know it can be hard for some to put themselves out there to speak directly to someone but in this case it truly can help you to do so. It seemed to me that Wash U appreciated it when my D was proactive in expressing interest. In her case, the Admissions Dept (and her rep) proved to be extremely approachable and welcoming. Go for it.
