Interviews

I recently submitted my applications to Mount Holyoke Bryn Mawr, Scripps College, Wellesley and University of Rochester. Then I arranged for an interview for Rochester. When I went to arrange for an interview with Bryn Mawr, I found out that the deadline for interviews had passed. I did visit Bryn Mawr though and have got quite a few pieces of mail from them since my visit. I have visited and interviewed with Mount Holyoke. The other 2 women’s colleges, I did not visit. How important is an interview in my case with Bryn Mawr or the other 2 schools? Any comments are appreciated. Thanks.

You can look up each school’s common data set. For example, here is Bryn Mawr’s: https://www.brynmawr.edu/sites/default/files/CDS_2011-2012.pdf

In section C7, it lists the school’s admissions factors as “very important, important, considered, or not considered”. For Bryn Mawr the interview is listed as “considered”, meaning it’s influence on the school’s decision is not as heavy as other factors such as course rigor.

Most schools do not weight the interview heavily. The interview is more of a way for you to get to know the school than it is for the school to get to know you. If your application is good, you shouldn’t have a problem.

If it is convenient to visit again, email your regional rep and ask if you can visit with him or her when you visit the school. The risk is that they may say no but will expect you to visit again anyway. Be sure to mention that you have already visited but anticipate being in the area or something to give yourself room.
