Interviews

I was wondering if just an interview alone (50 minutes long) can get you into boarding school. Given the student has mediocre stats and great ECs. Can just the way they talk and sound get them into the school and make up for say 88 SSAT and some B’s in school?

Probably depends on the school and what the EC’s are plus essays and recommendations. And does the student have any hooks?

No hooks except played football for 8 years but couldn’t play this year because of family issues (so no hudl film). Other than that just average ECs and lots of tutoring and wrestling and track.

Which school(s)? I’m not any sort of expert, but I bet AO’s interview some kids with amazing personalities, but at the end of the day they are also looking for kids that can handle the work and fit into the class they are building.

Well, probably not “just” the talk. What you said sounds like “passable” stats + great ECs + highly successful interview + possibly excellent essays. The answer is yes. If the AO strongly advocates for him/her and makes a strong case, then he/she is as competitive as someone with great stats but “passable” Everything else.

I think it may depend on whether they need a player for your sport. And on other things, including luck!
Many students are qualified; they are seeking a balanced class.

This is for 9th right?

11th grade with more than just passable stats (I also take prep-calculus). I’m not sure about the essays because i’m not a great writer, but I tried making them creative as possible. And schools including Lawrenceville, St. Andrews, Deerfeild, and possibly St. Puals.
