Interviews?

Does Vassar offer interviews (alumni or on campus) for freshman applicants of the College of Arts and Sciences? If so, how do I set one up?

I don't think Vassar has a "College of Arts and Sciences"...

You can find the interview information on this page. Vassar College || Visit
Vassar College does not have different "schools" such as a separate College of Arts and Sciences.

I don't think that Vassar offers campus interviews. At least, that's what it says in Fiske, which is like my bible when in comes to college stuff. They do offer Alumni interviews, though. You request it when you turn in your application (I know that early decision people had to turn in their app two weeks early to request an interview, I had to!)

they offer on-campus interviews for legacies, I think, and off-campus for everyone else.

You just need to finish the supplement which asks whether you want an interview or not. I'm so glad they kept it simple like that.

Indeed, you had to check whether you wanted an interview or not on the supplement to the application. If they could find an alumnus in your area and there was enough time you would get an interview....and mine happens to be Monday! aaaaaaaaaaaaah!

As an alum, I can assure you there are alumnae interviews available in most regions. I also have access to the format of the interview and suggested questions to ask... but sorry... can't share that!! You'll do fine, don't sweat. We don't bite! :D Just be yourself, be prepared to tell a few things about yourself, what your passions are, what you like to do, and why you think you'll love Vassar as much as we do. The rest is gravy.

Hey guys! I requested an interview when I submitted my app for RD in mid-December, but Vassar has yet to contact me about this. I know there are alumnae in my area because a friend of mine who applied ED just had an interview. Should I be worried that they have not contacted me back yet? Should I contact them?
Or should I hang in there because they just may not have gotten to my app yet?

I live in a really rural, remote place.....I know there are no grads in my town, maybe none for 100 miles or more. I requested an interview when I submitted the common app but, I wondered what they do when there are no alums anywhere close?

Hunting4Happiness, the same thing happened to me. I just e-mailed the admissions dept with my name, DOB, pin number, telling them that I had yet to be contacted for an interview and told them where I lived. Two days later I got a call.

ok, thanks Hbananah. I was debating doing something like that, but I def will. Good luck! :)

You're welcome. :) I am already in. (yay) So I'll wish YOU good luck. Maybe I'll see you around campus.

Vassar interviews are informational not evaluative, so relax. Legacy applicants can get interviewed on campus. All others can request an alumni interview. If you requested one with your application and have not heard from anyone, call or e-mail admissions and let them know and they will contact the local Vassar club and remind them that you are interested and waiting. Not all areas have alumni interviews. If you don't get one, don't worry. It will not determine your chances of getting in but is there to help you learn more about Vassar.

Interviews are purely informational? Is that really true? Because the alumni are given forms and specific questions to ask and have to turn in a report by a certain date. I think that maybe they don't play a significant part, but maybe as minor factor . . . I think that maybe they'll disregard a not-so-great interview as nervousness/lack of chemistry with the interviewer/etc but a good interview can definitely be a point in your favor.

interviews are being transitioned to informational. There is no big report anymore. Definitely do NOT stress over the interview meeting. If it is horrible because of chemistry, oh well. If it is great that is good but it is not going to change the outcome of your application either way unless there is something so extreme in either direction. It "counts" way less than an individual teacher reference. Just relax and get some good information to help you.
