inteview postcards?

Just curious:

Did anyone applying RD receive little postcards from Northwestern recently about the opportunity they have to take part in an interview with a local alumnus? I just got one today, and I'm not really sure what to do about it. I'm seriously considering having one now, but I'm a little scared of the idea. Also, did anyone in general take part in an interview? If you did, would you mind giving a little info on what it was like (atmosphere), etc.?

My NU alum interview was fantastic. We went to Starbucks and talked for about 80 minutes about everything. Pretty standard questions, but he seemed really really interested in making sure that everything that wasn't in my application got to the admissions office before November 1st. Which, for me, was excellent- I don't exactly fit into written pages. I reccommend doing one. Good luck!

I think I'm going to go through with it. I like the idea that NU might be able to get more favorable information on me that wasn't originally present in my application. There's only so much that can be said about oneself with word limits. Plus, everyone that I've talked to so far has said to go for it. I really don't have anything to lose.

Jeez, I hope my interview goes as well as yours did, Hazelbites. That's cool that you got to go to Starbucks for it. In my case, since i live at the halfway point between Detroit and Chicago with no huge cities around me, I'm probably going to end up travelling to one of the two of them for it (most likely Detroit). Even though they're a bit out of my way (though not a huge way out of my way), I'm having a feeling that the drive and interview will be worth it. I'm planning on setting it up sometime next week.

By the way, what exactly did you wear?

Also, good luck with tomorrow's ED news (hopefully, it will come tomorrow for you so you don't have to wait any more)!

i wore a black skirt, black hose, black heels, and a bright blue cardigan. he wore black slacks, a bright purple button up, and a giant purple turban. i would definitely dress up and take a pad of paper with some questions- they made me feel a lot more secure and professional.

I wanted to do an interview, but I searched all the zipcodes around me...they aren't available, :(.

yeah i noticed that the NU interviewers are really spread out.. there doesn't seem to be that many alumni who are willing to do interviews.

I don't think that it's that the alumni don't want to do the interviews necessairly. I think it's more so based on their location, which isn't everywhere. Oh well, I guess we have to make do with what's given to us.

From my impression from information sessions and e-mails, interviews don't matter a whole lot. While a lot of schools may consider interviews for admissions purposes, Northwestern interviews are supposed to be purely informational for the student. So if you aren't able to have an interview it shouldn't be that big of deal.

I think they are more for the alumni and the student than for the admissions process.

I still think that there aren't that many alumni who want to do the interviews because I live in a highly urban area so location would not be the issue here. Besides, for all the other colleges I applied to, there were plenty of alumni nearby.

Yeah I agree that it's probably more for the alumni and students than for the admissions.
