Hey
How is FSU's International Relations Program. I know their Poli Sci is pretty good, but how would their IR (or Poli Sci for that matter) do against that of U of Miami, UF or American ?
Thanks

Poli Sci at FSU is the highest rated in Florida; and that includes U Miami.

Not sure about IR...I'll check and see. I think Miami is decent there; but just how so I'm not sure.

No idea how they rate against American...have to check.

ok thanks for the info ! Keep it coming if you can..

I actually graduated with a double major in International Affairs and International Business. Some schools call it International Relations and others call it International Affairs, it's the same major. The International Affairs program at FSU is pretty solid. The best IA programs are probably found at the Ivy League schools, but FSU's can hold its own weight. Many IA students are part of The World Affairs Program, this program is one of the best in the world. The World Affairs Program is up to par with the likes of Harvard, Yale and Cornell. Here is a link of press realeases from the WAP.

nice, i would have never known FSU to have such a good IA/ Poli Sci dept.
Don't you just love CC
Thanks!

Do you think it's programs are at the same level as those of GW or American ?

Per US News, the graduate program at FSU in Political Science (as of 2005, the latest rankings)
is:

FSU: 37 (nationally)
Georgetown: 41
GW: 42
UFlorida: 52

American University is not listed. U Miami (FLA) is not listed, either.

I can find no specific listing for IR.

I really couldn't tell you if it's better than the ones at GW or American. For IR, you will usually need to get a master's degree or PHD, so those schools could still be a possibility in your future even if you attend FSU. I do know that the WOP at FSU, is probably better than the ones at those two schools.

ok, cool. Do those graduate rankings reflect the undergrad ones ?
That's crazy! Gtown at 41!
Again thanks for the info !!!

Most times there are no specific rankings for an undergrad department, unless it's big, like business.

The same professors who teach the graduates generally always teach and greatly influence the undergrad area.

None of this is exact, just a guide. The rankings themselves can be teased or influenced...they are not an end-all.

Hope this helps!

It does alot ! Thanks

I had a double major in Poli-Sci and Communication -- I took a few international relations courses and they were great. One of the profs I had worked for the CIA for about 8 years. Tough, but very interesting class.

cool,
Are there alot of internships and opportunities after college.. like is there a good alum network or atleast a good job placement system ?

Bump for seconding that last question.

I would suggest checking out some of the various Seminole clubs across the world - is there a particular place you’re looking for an internship? Is it in Washington D.C.? If that is the case, the political nature of the state capital and strong poli-sci dept and alums will be able to help. After all - a lot of poli-sci is international relations. The global economy, international conflict decisions - it’s all driven by politics. INR is a huge component to a Poli-Sci major - it’s not all campaigns and the constitution. :)
