Do I apply for financial aid as a permanent resident or as an international student? Cornell said do everything as a permanent resident. Should I apply this to all my colleges?

If you have a green card you are a permanent resident not an international student. So yes, you should apply as a permanent resident.

ok thanks. So what about tax returns and stuff then?

Just got your green card? Lucky! Right on time.

I know! Everything's working out in that aspect. We were worried it wouldn't come through in time for apps.

If you are a permanent resident, you will need to file the FAFSA in order to qualify for federally funded need-based financial aid. The FAFSA is based in part on your parents US Federal Income Tax forms (1040 ect.) and your Federal Income Tax form. Read all about it at FAFSA - Free Application for Federal Student Aid

Most people file FAFSA on the web, but if your family has a bunch of international income, investments, property, etc. to account for, you might find it easier to file the paper FAFSA.

Good luck!

wow I never even thought of that. Thanks for the tip!
