I still need to fill another social sciences requirement...I'm considering Intro Psych (101) but my friend was always saying she had to do psych experiments/outside of class sort of things for this class. But then I didn't see anything about it on courseforum. Does anyone have any experience with this? Or recommendations for classes to take to fulfill this requirement? I've already done one econ so it has to be from another dept... :\ Thanks! :)

I took this class as a “filler” in spring of 4th year. I honestly didn’t care for it. There are much better psych classes available (and other social science classes for that matter!)

My class had like 300 people in it and I felt it to be too large. It was 100% lecture/power point based. On the up side, there are no papers; but on the downside, all the tests covered a LOT of material and were multiple choice (and tricky at times). The experiment requirement is really, really simple. I had to do 6 experiments, 3 before and 3 after the midterm. They usually take no more than an hour (if that) and you’re participating in an experiment being carried out by upper level/graduate students. They’re not painful or anything…a lot of times they are giving you different computer applications that somehow gauge your beliefs/attitudes towards certain topics.

I took child psych, didn’t do the experiments or alternate papers, didn’t get docked for it. If you don’t care that much about losing a part of a grade (a to a- for instance), then that is what they threaten will happen if you don’t do them.

I also did not care for the way child psych was run (ppt, tricky bell curved mc tests) but the material was interesting enough. Take one of the specialized ones with interesting material if you’re going to put yourself through an intro psych class. They don’t require 101 as a prereq.
