Psy 240?

Hi, I just had my orientation last week and for my DEC F I signed up for PSY-240- Survey in Social Psychology. I was able to take the course without taking the pre-req psy 103 because during junior year of high school I took an intro psych course linked with a local private college that gave me transferrable credit.

Here's the thing though. From the intro psych course I took in high school, I retained little to nothing. It was extremely easy, probably not nearly as serious as AP Psychology. It was taught by a history teacher, tests were a joke and everyone in my high school would just take take the course because it was an easy elective that offered college credit.

So now I'm feeling worried about taking PSY 240 this semester without taking the pre-req psy-103. I chose it over psy-103 at orientation because specialized psych topics like obedience/conformity, and social deviance/agression interested me more than the general introductory psych topics, but I do not want to take the course if I'll be unprepared for it. Can anyone that's taken PSY 240 tell me if I will struggle without taking the pre-req? Again, my base in psychology is little to nothing and I don't feel well-learned from the class I took in high school. Thanks.

Psychology is easy, so you shouldn’t have a problem. But a better answer is that almost everyone switches/drops classes in the first couple of weeks. So, go to the class look at the syllabus to see what topics will be covered, test drive it, and if you don’t feel confident, drop it and take something else.

Thanks, yeah that’s probably what I’ll do. Hopefully there will be room in psych 103 if I wanna switch into that after a few weeks. Thanks for replying!
