Investment Banking

ehh not really, more like an accouting intern, finance intern, business intern...if your doing something related to a business function at one of those places then its a different story, but just being a wall greens cashier doesnt cut it.....but the if your a caddy at a golf course there may be some good networking opportunities, but the job itself doesnt really fit the category

Ive heard most people are from Indiana? How much diversity? Is there much to do beside drink/smoke?

I think that there are 4% minority students at IU which is kind of ridiculous. Also how many black students were in the Investment Banking workshop, I've only seen like two.

yea alot are indiana students, but the bschool gets alot of foreign students, and quite a few minorities, i myself am a student of indian heritage from new jersey. The party life is a big part of it but if your interested in the arts or music or something we have one of the worlds best music schools, a lot of plays and things of that nature. and i havent seen many black students in the workshop, but im sure they are color blind in selection, if your qualified youll get in

no im not black but was thinking morso along the lines of socio ecconomic status and where kids come from(state wise)...not just the bschool or workshop but IU in general?

No problem with frat parties ect. but dont want that to be all there is.

I never said they discriminate, just most black students are interested or even know what investment banking is, hopefully, I'll be another.

mostly indiana kids, im not sure what the econ status of indiana kids is, mostly middle class i guess? the kids who come from the east or west coast and foreign students are pretty loaded tho. but middle america, middle class is predominant.

How is the library? How hard is it to get into the classes you need?

yea how hard is it to get the classes you need? i signed up for the earliest orientation date cuz i was afraid of tat! at the UC's, sometimes classes fill up fast and you gota really move you're ass to get the required classes. my orientation date is like middle of june which means im still in school lol 1 week away from my graduation :) yea im sure oos kids would tend to have money or be slightly upper class, a kid at my school is actualy goin to IU wit me and wants to major in business and hes payin the full sticker price ( he didnt get honors program or direct admit or scholarships and im like WHAT why pay OOS if you just got in as a normal student!? save tat money but his parents can pay the whole thing and im like DAMMMMN)

general classes arent too hard to get into, honors courses fill up quick tho

uhyea, say that you don't get into Ibanking, what jobs are other kids say kids in the 3.0-3.6 range? Finance majors.

big 4, finance positions at some big companies, random small finance firms in the mw...probably limited to staying in the mw area than say ny or cali...although if your at the 3.6 level you still have alot of options. For those not interested in ib or unsure they are just starting a consulting workshop similar to ib workshop in terms its high quality for preperation and landing a job in the industry. if your closer to the 3.0 level i guess maybe some big 4 action, or finance positions at big companies, but most likely restricted to mw area.

MW area, like what, I want to work in the midwest anyway. When you say Big 4, you mean like consulting or corp finance, or Big 4 accounting?

big 4 accounting, mw area meaning in a city like indy or dayton ohio or something, not the big places like nyc or la. Most ib and major finance stuff happens in nyc, though a lot of action in chicago also

So, basically to get a good job you need a 3.5 at least.

some accouting students get into big 4 with like 3.3 and up

I'm not sure if I want to do accounting. For a finance major, with a 3.5 that doesn't do Ibanking is it possible to work for something like GE, or Standard & Poors, or something like that?

I'm compiling a list of top ibanking/trading feeders....

IBANKING:
-Wharton
-NYU Stern
-UChicago
-UMich
-Ivies
-UC Berkeley
-Georgetown
-Indiana
-(more schools?)

TRADING
-UChicago
-NYU Stern
-Wharton
-MIT?
-(more schools?)

And yeah are there any other schools I can add to these lists?

no idea, i really only care bout ib so i never looked into it, look at the website and go the the undergrad career services, then look at the "academic brochure" and it will show the top hiring companies for finance majors if u click on teh finance part

how is georgetown in ib placement, i keep trying to get the placement stats but it keeps messing up. wats the total number per year, firms, and percentage
