Yup true that.

anything about some of the not so selective privates, GW, BU, ect...

how do they compare to IU, UVa, ect in BB placement?

Umm.. I think they probably are about slightly less.

much less.

ya i was planning on goin to bu then i found out their business program is not highly ranked at all

This investment banking seminar. What are the requirements on getting into that, and what year do you apply? Is a 3.5 GPA all that is required? Also where can I find the info on it, I don't see a link on the website.

its called the excellence in ib seminar, you do it when your a senior and all you need is a 3.5. It's basically intensive ib and interview prep. done by the students in the workshop who have already accepted their full time job stemming off their internship. They teach the kids all they need to know about what to do on the job and how to land it. You finish up the program right before the full time recruiting season starts. The reason it started was because the workshop interns did so well at the bb's that the comapanies started fighting to recruit at iu, but when they came to recruit for full time positions no one was prepared or knew about the interviews, so they created this program and it just started this fall and it has had pretty good results. I'm not sure why its not online yet, but I'm sure it will pretty soon.

19 students I see placed full-time from the investment banking seminar. Wow 10 with major firms. l like.

But is the workshop better to get into? Also, can u provide link mssales?

Read 'Excellence in Investment Banking Seminar'

Also I think the workshop is probably better.

Also will being a transfer hurt you when it comes time for internships, and full-time jobs?

well i think the workshop would be better because most likely you will get a very good internship of your choice the summer before your senior year, and almost everyone of the members clinched a full time offer with their summer intern firm and doesnt have to worry much senior year. but if you have connections or are just a good candidate and get pretty solid financial or ib internships, a pretty high gpa (3.5+), and some leadership the seminar may not be a bad idea if your still struggling to get an ib job or internship before your senior year. If you fulfill those things and get some really good job and interview prep specifically for ib in the seminar you will have a good chance at one of the top firms because as i said they were fighting to recruit. I am not sure about the whole transfer situation, especially if your transferring before your junior year because the bschool requires some unique classes before you can do i-core so you may be put behind a semester. But if you end up having to stay at IU an extra semester or something I'm sure if your qualified they would make an exception, but thats just my guess.

But does everyone want to get into the workshop and seminar? I mean theres not that many slots and hundreds of finance majors?

How do you get in? All those resumes look preaty impresive.

Well the workshop is quite competitive, but if you have the grades, experence and leadership quality and can interview and are socially competent and not just a nerd youll have a good shot. It's going to get more competitive as years go by since more capable students will start coming to iu for this reason, i did, and more people find out about it. There are several finance students, but many (no offense to kelleys) are not at a high enough level to be picked for the workshop, are not interested in ib, or don't want to leave their home (most iu students are in state). In terms of the seminar all you need is a 3.5 and you can reap the benefits, and some of the kids who did not fit the workshop profile can always do things on their own to become better candidates and join the seminar (3.5+) or keep working hard independently

uhyea, I have to take Career Prespectives, Bus Comm. Technology, E-370, Accounting Basics, and G202, my first semester there, and then I'll take the I-core in the fall or summer, so basically I have to do an extra semester and if I take the I-core in the summer, I'll be on pace to graduate on time. So do you think it will hurt me, or will I be alright, because I will be taking I-core atleast in the fall(thinking about the summer).

if your taking icore in the fall or summer you will definetly be in good shape to apply for the workshop. The schedule is strict and you have to apply in the fall and then the program runs from second semester jr year to first semester senior year (most important time is jr year because thats prep for the intern that will get you the job), as long as you keep the high grades, get involved and have had some corporate experience and are socially competent i dont see why they would not take you.

What do you mean by "corporate experience."

Ive never been to Bloomington how is it? Are there opportunites for internships? I saw a lot of people worked in Indianapolis how far is that?

Is IU a big party school? Lots of frats?

yes, there are plenty of internships. Indianapolis is about 1 hour away. Yes, big party school, and lots of frats.

corp. experience, business or business related internships

Like if I worked at a golfball driving range or Walgreens or something?
