sorry ameer, i don't think it means anything.

by the way, i believe all applicants this year will have the opportunity to participate in an overnight stay program at berkeley (4/21-4/22 OR 4/23-4/24 I believe; Cal Day is 4/22) At the program, you stay in the dorms with a host (freshman Alumni Scholar), eat at the dining halls, meet other potential Alumni Scholars, tour the campus, etc etc.

Last year only semifinalists (those invited to interview) were invited to OSP, and there were only 100 spaces that ran out in a mere minutes (you sign up online).

I am on the planning committee this year, and I think that it will be now open to all applicants (though admittedly that sounds a bit strange to me), and we will have about 400 spots total. Should be fun!

See but what I think is really weird about all this is that I applied to five other UCs and Berkeley has been the only one that has been inviting me to apply for scholarships and reminding of fin aid deadlines. My friend applied to both Santa Cruz and SB but got an invitation to apply for a Santa Cruz scholarship, not one for SB. Don't you guys think it's weird that I wouldn't receive an invitation to apply for Santa Cruz scholarship (or from any of the other four UCs for that matter) but Berkeley has managed to send repeated e-mails regarding such things? In my idealistic mind I'd like to think that their system is that you get offered a scholarship from the "best" UC you get into (the one you're most likely going to attend) and the others just don't bother. Maybe in a perfect world...

what do you find out first: if you got the scholarship or acceptance to the school. Has anyone every received the scholarship and not acceptance? That would suck.

usually you first find out about the acceptance. scholarship acceptance comes annoyingly late, especially since it varies depending on what district you belong to.

ineedtogetin - alumni will read and score the the scholarship applications in late Feb and March. In April, prospective 1st year applicants are interviewed by local alumni for the scholarship. Notification of awards are generally between April and August. It would be a waste of time and effort to read & score an application, or interview a student who wasn't admitted, but this is just a conjecture. We alumni are only privy to the scholarship selection process, not admissions. While I wouldn't want to raise false hope, it would seem as if you don't have anything to worry about.

Mrbobbaloo - Each district has its own timeline for contacting and interviewing students for the alumni scholarship. This year they will be conducting interviews outside of the Bay Area so the dates are different in other places. Berkeley is on the ball because the large # of applicants makes for a greater need to organize earlier and since the interviews have taken place exclusively in the Bay Area in the past, they are already set up for it.

mrbobbaloo - a correction: I meant this year, they will be conducting interviews in a few major cities outside of the Bay Area in addition to the interviews that will take place in Berkeley.
