Invitation to apply?

I've gotten notifications from Fordham and Sarah Lawrence that I will be receiving invitations to apply, what does this mean exactly?

“what does this mean exactly?” Nothing. Besides they want you to apply. Your info was on a mailing list and their marketing division or subcontrator contacted you. Apply if you want to. There’s no special “in” in this case.

It’s a marketing tool. Fordham and Sarah Lawrence (and a whole lot of other universities and colleges) are trying to get noticed by students who they think might not apply otherwise. Apparently they liked your scores on the ACT or SAT; they buy lists of students who score above a certain threshold score from the testing companies.

In order to get you to take a serious look at them, they’ll send you some kind of special application that will probably include some kind of benefits. Benefits that some colleges offer include waiving the application fee, allowing you to skip the essays when you apply, and offering an earlier response date (for example, if you apply by November, they’ll answer you by February, and you still don’t have to make up your mind until May 1). I don’t know what kind of goodies Fordham and Sarah Lawrence offer in particular.

If you think you’d be interested in Fordham or Sarah Lawrence even without the flattery on their part, you should apply. If not, then probably not. But you could certainly check out their web sites.

I was going to apply to them anyway actually, so its just a nice little extra, I’m applying to quite a few schools so some waived application fees would be great haha
