Invitation to excellence

Do only National Merits typically get the faculty awards?

DS was very outgoing at I2E; made a point to go up to the faculty on his own, ask questions tailored to his situation; made it a point to show how eager he was to learn. Even after a few months, I called to speak with the Dean, and he remembered DS by name.

I wasn’t able to attend the dinner on Friday night so do you think that might effect my chances? I thought my Academic session on Sat went really well though.

I wouldn’t think so; the dinner, we had a philosophy professor sit with us. DS is interested in business and engineering. As long as you were very interactive with the professors doing the sessions, I would think you have a good shot at it! Good luck!

Thank you so much for all your help!

When do you think the winners of the scholarship for the Jan.23 weekend will find out?

I believe they said we’ll know by March 13th.

We were told the January event students should know by mid-February if they were awarded a faculty award. I also confirmed this with her AC so we are praying she hears this week even.

We haven’t heard about faculty scholarship and also haven’t heard back from our admission counselor so not sure if that means she didn’t get it or we were told incorrectly that they’d hear mid-February. Anxious to find out!

We found out when DS logged into his Bear account. It was another month before we got the actual letter. Good luck!!

We logged into her GoBaylor account this afternoon and the faculty scholarship WAS listed in her financial aid award section!! So very excited!! Happy dance here and all the best to those still waiting!

And FYI, we received the letter in the mail yesterday so not much of a delay as others have experienced.

Missed your first post; congratulations collegeboundinia! Is this a confirmation of Baylor attendance then?

It’s her top choice but she is still waiting to hear from a couple other schools. Hopefully in a couple of weeks it will all be finalized!

Invitation to excellence decision emails went out today. I unfortunately did not make the cut. Does anyone know exactly how they make the selection? I thought for sure that my scores, transcript, and resume would have earned me selection considering 300 students are selected each year.

If you were selected, it’d be great if you could post your scores and other info for comparison!!

My info:
34 ACT Composite
4.00 unweighted GPA
Class Rank: 1 (class of 500)
IB Diploma Candidate
IB and AP curriculum
100+ hours of Community Service
Numerous leadership positions (e.g. National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta VP)
High School Baseball and Lacrosse

That does seem surprising. Your stats are impressive. Had you completed your application for admission by 12/7? Is your intended major located within one of the four specified areas/schools?

Are you a National Merit semi-finalist?

My daughter attended in November. Her stats are similar to yours. It did seem like a lot of the kids were NMSF.

I, too, am interested in how the decision was made as to who received the invitation. I received my denial email yesterday. I am not a NMF but when we visited Baylor last month, my admissions counselor said with my scores etc, that wouldn’t be an issue.

My Stats:
33 ACT composite
4.0 unweighted GPA
AP curriculum
Top 5% of class (#10 of 205)
Many leadership positions (president, student council, president of National Honor Society etc)
Tons of extracurricular
Play tennis and soccer
Many academic awards

I’ve visited Baylor twice from out of state. I’m incredibly disappointed. I received $17,000 in scholarship but that leaves about $36,000 per year. I may not have gotten the faculty scholarship but was ready to give everything I had.
Would so appreciate hearing stats of those that were accepted to Invitation to Excellence.

Wow, @bandofbrothers, you’ve got impressive stats too. No clue what might have been behind the denial.

What session did you guys attend?

@bandofbrothers @Maverick1016 , sorry you didn’t get accepted to Invitation to Excellence, it seems like a really cool event. Both of you had extremely impressive stats, honestly way better than mine. We are talking about the Jan 22-24 2016 event, right? I was accepted, registered, and plan on attending the event. I was super nervous about hearing back, considering I don’t even have a composite of 30 (29), only a superscore.

When I applied to Invitation to Excellence, I was already accepted to Baylor, had toured the school, and attended one of those meetings with an admissions counseler. I’m not a NMF or NMSF. Like I said, my stats aren’t nearly as good as yours:

29 ACT composite, 30 superscore
3.74 unweighted GPA, 3.98 weighted
Rigorous AP curriculum
Ranked in top 21% of class (around 550 students)
Leadership and academic awards
4 years of sports involvement
A lot of community service
A few extracurriculars

Are you guys seriously considering Baylor as a top choice for school? Are you in or out of state (I’m out, Colorado)? Did you consider your invitation to excellence application essay strong?
