@bandofbrothers@Maverick1016 Wow I am shocked you guys didn’t get in. You guys have excellent stats! That is so strange.
I got accepted to the event early in December. I had already been accepted to Baylor when I applied. I also toured a couple of months ago. I’m also from out of state.
My stats:
ACT Score - 35
GPA (unweighted) - 4.0
Lots of AP Classes
Varsity Tennis
Lots of Volunteer Hours
Research experience last summer in biochem lab
NMSF
Does anyone know how the faculty scholarship works? Do we write an essay for it while we are at the event? Do I need to be working on something before I go?
@ncw123@bandofbrothers@Maverick1016 I attended the event in November, and I got accepted to Baylor mid October. I also do not know why you guys did not get accepted to the program because my stats are no where near yours. If you get accepted you get the chance to apply for the full tuition faculty scholarship. Saturday night there will be a link to the essay topics in your goBaylor account, that is also where you submit the essay. And no you will not be working on the essay while you are there. I’m still waiting to here back for the scholarship, they told us we will know by January 11. I received the Distinguished Scholars Day scholarship so I hope I get this one as well.
@GoodGrief16 I’m not a NMSF and I’m from out of state (Tennessee) but I did complete my application for admission by the deadline. I had been accepted a few weeks prior to submitting my application for the Invitation to Excellence. The only thing I can think of that might have played a role in my denial is that I submitted my application fairly close to the deadline (2-3 days before). Perhaps all the slots had been taken? @futurebaylorbear@bandofbrothers Out of curiosity, when did y’all submit the application?
@nahimgood Thanks for the info you posted. My son is attending the January event and did the DSD in October and got that award. What is your intended major? Does anyone know how many I2E awards they give out?
Has anyone received the faculty scholarship yet? I attended I2E this past November 2015. I still haven’t gotten a letter. I know they said that you should hear by Jan. 11, but I read that some got emails in December. Any thoughts as to why I haven’t heard yet? When news does come will I hear by email, GoBaylor, or standard letter in the mail? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.
@bandofbrothers I attended Invitation to Excellence with my son in November. It was really neat and a great chance to talk to the professors and other students in the major you select. It did not state a dress code very well so I did not have my son wear a jacket and I wish he had worn one. (he wore a long-sleeved polo collared shirt and khakis) By attending, they give you an additional $2,000. The tour is divided up into the area you are in. One track was honors college, one was an engineering track (and CS) and then there was another one. The parents stayed together and the students were together during the day. His stats are: 33 ACT composite (36 Math), top quarter at very large high school. AP scholar, etc.
I am sorry I just realized that you said you were denied. All I can think is that they have more people who applied for the Spring I2E because both of your stats are the same or better than my son’s stats. I know they have really strict deadlines.
Friday night was dressy (not formal) and yes I think most girls wore a dress. Saturday is casual and the kids are taken on their own tour. The parents have some things they can do but it is not structured for the parents. I just wandered around but it was cold and windy. I met with the financial counselor and that was somewhat helpful.
The best part about the Friday night dinner was that you are assigned to a table and one of the professors from your major is seated at the table. He answered questions about computer science and he actually teaches gaming. Of course, my son thought that was awesome. For those that did not get selected or who did not apply in time, the kids at I2E are all kids who have gotten into numerous schools so many of them are not necessarily attending Baylor so please do not think this will preclude you from getting scholarships etc. It was neat but the tour was pretty much the same as another one we went on.
Sorry for responding again but just saw the question about academics… I erroneously signed my son up for honors and they let him switch to the engineering one. (the last thing he would want to do would be tons of research papers and liberal arts stuff) I thought honors meant you were in harder classes but it means something different there at Baylor than at A&M where I went. The academic session he went to showed them the labs, the Teal academic dorm for engineers, and talked a lot about how difficult the program is. There is a pre-med track as well and one of the girls went to that and they explained what would be expected etc. All in all, it was a great program and answered all his questions.
