Invited for an audition

For schools that are still inviting students for on-campus auditions after a pre-screen, does that generally mean you will be admitted?

My daughter was invited for an on-campus audition for Miami Frost School. We were originally in the EA pool but we had to move to Regular Admission because we had a conflict on the only on-campus audition day for early action. We’ll be rescheduled for later in Feb.

Syracuse seems to have the same type of system and is also still requiring in-person auditions. Just wonder what this means in regards to admission. Would they really make you travel if they weren’t going to admit you?

No…it means you are in the group of students who been invited for an audition…and admitted students will be those who rise to the top in those auditions.

And yes…they expect you to travel. My first kid traveled to seven auditions, six of which were out of town. Most required a plane trip and hotel stay…on somewhat short notice.

Thanks for the insight.

Best,

Hi there, not really responsive to your question (mine did all call-back auditions by zoom last year), but I did want to let you know that my kiddo is a (very happy) freshman at Frost and I’d be happy to try to answer any questions you might have about it. Mine is a classical performance major at present, leaning toward changing majors to music industry and perhaps changing to jazz or contemporary as well, with a dual degree, so we’ve done quite a bit of deep dive on curriculum! While generally I might say that it’s a good idea to do extra research before investing in the travel, it’s hard to complain about a required trip to Miami in February!

Note that most schools do have a new, virtual audition option, which definitely addresses the financial inequities that travel requirements have highlighted as well as any covid-safety concerns people may have.

I saw this option in each of the three schools my son is applying to for music.
