their parents?

In general? Does this apply to a significant fraction of people?

And does this change throughout life?

haha i was reading some book saying that strict Confucians don't like it when they find out that they might love their spouses more than their parents (suggestive that it's the norm)

No I think the percentage of people is mostly equal. There are those who will always love their parents more. Now quantifying love is another matter.

Duh. Most people love their spouses more than their offspring. Well, no…but a lot. It’s also “the wife and kids” as if the kids are one huge entity lol. And people with spouses and kids usually find reluctance sending money or support to elderly parents, tending to live “in the present”.

I mean, you can’t use your kids and parents for * that * kind of pleasurable physical stimulation.

^Really? Even in the youth of the offspring? Considering reactions to this New York Times article, I’m doubtful.

Most people probably do love their spouses more than their parents. My parents do not, but they don’t really like each other in the first place.

Eh…just as I think politics/governments should be strictly secular to avoid any bias at all, whether good or bad -because if there’s good, there will be bad as well-, families should have no preference.

Call me deprived, but I like the way my family works. My parents treat each other as professional partners out to maximize earnings, our (my brother and I’s) potential, and pursue their individual career interests. To us, they treat us like equals, not the gooey I-love-you-honey down-talking. We’re all basically partners. It’s not that we don’t love each other…I’m sure we do, it’s just not something that’s necessary to be displayed. lol that way no one can complain that “they” get more attention/affection…

In chinese culture you have to support your parents with money
