kukomi- From what I heard from different threads and what my friend told me it is a pretty selective program. And for the matter of siemens vs intel it depends on what type of research you’re doing on campus.
Btw = for all those who are going to SSTP this summer or who are planning to go where do you guys live?

did anyone find out about their lab placements yet. I found out I’m in an evolutionary bio lab.

how did u find out? did u already tell them that you are going? i haven’t replied yet because i’m waiting for a couple other summer programs to send out their decisions…

My son hasn’t gotten his placement yet either. We haven’t responded yet to SSTP but I am pretty certain he is going to go. We’re in California.

I called sstp to find out how much credit costs. No info on credits but they were able to tell me my lab placement.
New Jersey

i got an email today from them telling me my placement…i’m in a biology lab researching genomics and genetics.

illinois

i got in too! i’m in a chem/nanotech lab.

ugh now i’m starting to regret putting down biology as my top interest…i want chem/nanotech…haha

I was the same way about evolutionary bio but after reading about what they were trying to do at u of Iowa it became more interesting.

Astrophysics lab. Yay! Now I don’t feel too bad about not getting into SSP. xP I can’t figure out much from my mentor’s website because I’m not familiar with high-energy astrophysics jargon, but from what I can decipher with Wikipedia, it sounds pretty cool.

I will definitely be going, and I’m from California.

I attended last year if anyone has any questions.

romanovia, can you just tell us your general experiences with this program? did u like it…was there a lot of free time…was it fun…hows the research…things like that. thanks!

Somewhat more importantly, is there AC in the dorms? :P

From the website:

Could you elaborate on this or give a few examples from when you attended?

Finally decided to join to SSTP Iowa summer program and gave my acceptance and paid the fees.
The program is from June 19 and July 29.
Few Questions:

Are we going to receive info on what time we are supposed to be there on 19 June and what time do we leave on July 29 so that I can make flight reservations?

What airport should I fly into in iowa city? I am flying from San Francisco. Is it Eastern Iowa Airport (CID)?

Are there some folks who can help me pickup from airport and take me to Univ of Iowa?

Romanovia,
If it is ok with you, can I get your phone number? I have few questions that I would like to ask you?
Much appreciate it.

Hey guys,

Sorry, I don’t check this unless I get an e-mail notification.

If you have any questions, send them to noah.rbn@gmail.com. That way, I’ll see them.

i was accepted to hshsp and i ended up deciding to go there. i declined sstp so i hope this frees up a spot for someone who’s waitlisted!

Is hshsp a lot better than sstp Iowa??

im not sure but here’s what i think. hshsp seems a lot more well-known than sstp iowa. consider the threads on cc. this thread is not nearly as active as the hshsp one. also, hshsp says that a lot of their projects end up winning intel semifinalist whereas sstp doesn’t say anything about being able to submit projects to science competitions. u probably can but it’s not guaranteed like it is with hshsp. and finally, hshsp gave me a better financial package and its starting cost is less than that of sstp, so it’s a lot cheaper for me to go to hshsp. i hope this helps!

in the ************* website it says that many people from sstp went on to place nationally ranked competitions and I dont know why its not more publicized.
