When my son and I visited the Carleton campus, I had to make a call home on my IPhone and could not get a decent signal while standing outside the front door of the admissions office. A very kind woman on the admissions staff lent me her cell phone to make the call.

Is IPhone service (AT&T) at Carleton pretty bad or was it just my phone? Is there another cell phone company that is better? Apparently Verizon will be selling IPhones starting in 2011.

I know the coverage maps for AT&T look like there is good coverage, but in my limited experience it is not. My Mom had AT&T and when she came to town there were spots that she could not get a signal. We never tried from campus, but from my home and the hospital the reception was iffy. Most local people I know use Tmobile.

That’s weird. I have AT&T and it works for me everywhere except the places where no one can get a signal, no matter which service they use (basements, Cassat, etc.). AT&T is generally regarded as one of the best services to have on campus. Other than that, Verizon is supposedly really iffy and Sprint is supposed to be pretty good, but I have no personal experience with either.

Agree with mflevity. ATT reception is generally very good on campus along with T Mobile and Sprint. Greatest number of complaints I hear is with Verizon, surprisingly.
