Iraq in Transition

Did I miss the memo?

Is there a Service Academy in Baghdad, now?

USNA09 . . . you just couldn't hold it in any longer. You just burst!
Here Z has been so good, he didn't even say a word to the masterflyer.
And I am sure many have been wanting to say much about how our wonderful congress [the republican congress] has been taking care of the pages.
But, who pulls their finger out of the dam first? Not Z!

We all know [even if we don't want to admit] that the situation is screwed up in Iraq. Maybe it will get better, maybe it won't. Who knows. Leave it that.

Just as everybody agreed that MFlyer deserved no response, I am afraid I have to agree w/ Z that the relative peace on these forums of late should not be disturbed.

Personally, I am just so sorrowful for those parents who have lost loved ones over there. The closer and closer I become to having a personal stake in the matter, the more and more I recognize how horrible that would be.
Only history will tell for sure if the loss was worth the price.

PBS - Love the music and Click&Clack on Car Talk.

Don't care much for its news management and pledge drive marathons.

"News management".

That's a polite way to put it. ;)

Please remember that PBS and NPR (National Propaganda Radio) are leftist "news" organizations. It's the Ramadan season and election season in the US. The American presence has been increased in Baghdad in anticipation of increased violence during this season. More American soldiers in Baghdad means more targets for the Islamic Fascists. This is a matter of probabilities and statistics.

you all are slipping . . . slipping ever so slightly back to the hot summer of '06.
Everybody has an opinion. Everybody is right. Everybody is wrong.

That was probably the original intent.

Still, I'm not going to play. I've got better things to do.

So, Z...

What are some of those songs from your USNA days??

Honest to God, the other day I heard one and the FIRST thing that went through my mind was, "I CANNOT BELIEVE I forgot to post that song on CC!"

Of course, now I can't remember which one it was.

Hey Zaphod...I saw you giving advice to a perspective candidate and you mentioned something to the effect that, "when I was a student". Don't you think you should mention that that was back during the time of Admiral Nelson???

Yeah; it has been peaceful here. At first I though it's not as exciting as it once was, but that feeling didn't last. It's so much better now that we can concentrate on helping the prospective candidates. It’s become a much better forum now that we’re all showing some restraint.

And perhaps I shouldn't mention this, but when I read Zaphod's query as to whether there was a service academy in Baghdad I went back to the PBS site to see if I'd missed it. In my defense there is a service academy in Afganistan.

Leave it to a Woop to miss an obvious joke.

Oh, and Admiral Nelson was a punk when I served. I knew Noah when he was a Seaman Recruit! :D

I'm not THAT old! :)

"Im so ronery, so ronery, so ronery, so sadry arone....."

See how good I'm being, Z????????

“At the United States Naval Academy, our focus is on producing combat leaders for our Navy and Marine Corps…”

Rodney P. Rempt
Vice Admiral, USN
Superintendent, USNA

On the news last night, 24 courageous members of our armed forces were on the honor roll of those recently killed in Iraq. Tonight another 15 US soldiers and marines were on the honor roll of war deaths. As of today, October 19, seventy-three American soldiers and marines have died in Iraq this month.

In 2006, many service academy graduates are serving in war zones less than a year after receiving their commissions. Many senior classmates of our sons and daughters who graduated last May will be in Iraq or Afghanistan within a few months. Additionally, their instructors and even classmates are combat veterans. Though not amusing or entertaining, this topic is relevant to the Service Academy Parents forum.
