IRS Data Retrieval Tool not accepting?

I've been asked to verify my parents' income from my college, and I keep trying to link my FAFSA to IRS, but it's not working. I keep getting this message:

"The information you entered does not match our records, therefore, we are unable to provide you with your Federal Income Tax Information. Return to the FAFSA and enter your responses to the financial questions using the information provided on your Federal tax return."

I've checked my information about five times now with the tax return, and I'm pretty sure the FAFSA is correct. Is there some other reason why this wouldn't be working?

Parents filed taxes in March.

Are your parents getting a refund? If so have you checked ‘Where’s my refund’ to see if their return has been processed? When in march did they file? It can take several weeks, longer if they paper filed. Did they owe an additional amount with their return? If so, the return won’t be fully processed until they pay the amount and the DRT won’t be available until then either.

Also, some people have reported issues with addresses they put into the DRT not matching the address the IRS has on record. The address the IRS has on record could be different than the address shown on the latest return in some way. Look at some past returns to see if the address is slightly different. Try things like using Street instead of St., East instead of E. or vice versa etc. if you know the return has been processed by the IRS.

@annoyingdad: I’m not sure about refunds. Where would you find “Where’s my refund”?

I’m pretty sure it was around mid-March, filed electronically, although we can contact the accountant’s office to make sure. I don’t think the address is the problem, either, but I can also look into that.

Thank you for the pointers. I’m going to stop by my college’s financial office to see if they can help any. This has been driving me nuts, not least because I’m going to be a first-year student and my parents don’t even know enough to do much other than dump their tax returns on me D:

You said you checked the return 5 times. Does it show they are getting a refund? You can google Where’s my refund and it will take you to the IRS site. You need to know the 1st SSN on the return, the filing status(probably married filing jointly) and the amount of the refund.
