IRVINE decisions

I don't think political science is impacted at Irvine.

"Hmmm. My last name starts with a "T" as well. Maybe I got an acceptance letter today! Although, instead of a philosophy major I am a poli sci major."

I'm too lazy to check myself, but how impacted (or not-impacted is the political science major compared to philosophy?

Oops typo. I fixed it. Poli sci is considered an impacted major now so I doubt that I will get an acceptance letter this soon. I don't know the avg GPA of admits of poli sci majors to UCI but for UCLA it was 3.56 for Fall 2005.

"UCLA has business economics which is very comparable to USC's Marshall even though it's not a "business" major. Also, sarcasmgirl sound like me =) apathetic to almost everything hehe"

Haha, we could all be apathetic together! Which makes me wonder if there are people on the forums who have actually become friends (after or before transferring)!

"I don't think political science is impacted at Irvine."

Yea, you are right. Although, I am assuming that there are a few poli sci rejectees from UCLA who go there. I need to see some stats.

Well, I doubt they'll reject you. It's seems somewhat hard to get rejected from UCI unless you have a Science or Math related major. :)

Sarcasm-did you complete two years of a foreign language in college (or are you currently taking a fourth semester in one)?

A major for Philosophy sounds cool. Not nearly as many people take it (not a very lucrative degree) and it's not all that hard. Abstract but not hard like the sceinces.

I sure hope what you say is true. UCI is not a bad UC, it is just my second choice. I'd actually be more comfortable going to UCI than UCLA because I'm familiar with Irvine. I've lived in West L.A. for almost 2 years now and I still don't know my way around the area. LOL. L.A. is just too big and busy for my taste.

Matt-I respectfully disagree with you. If you really get into philosophy, it is very likely harder than any other discipline could imagine being. Think about the areas philosophy covers.

"Sarcasm-did you complete two years of a foreign language in college (or are you currently taking a fourth semester in one)?"

I took 3 years of Japanese in high school (I got a C and D in the last year) and I'm taking my second semester of Chinese right now. But on the applications, I just put down "2 years of high school foreign language". Hehe.

I'm not sure if I would call it an easy major. Easy to get into, yes.

i'm attending uci right now as an economics major with a minor in accounting, and dreading econ because i want to be an accountant, but i hear that we are opening up business as a majorfor undergrads with 3 different tracks next year

The reason I mention that is philosophy at UCI (and other humanities majors) requires two years of a language other than English (IN COLLEGE).

Haha, I live 15-20 minutes away from Irvine and I still don't know my way around there. In fact, I have driving around south OC in general. Too hilly, dark and "outsider"-unfriendly (I'm central OC).

What highschool did you go to? I didn't know highschools offered Japanese.

Ehh, two years as in "four semesters" or two years in terms of high school equivalency?

I agree with Gabe, I'm a science major and some of the smartest people I know are philosophy majors. Philosophy is the study of pretty much everything, so your mind has to be pretty sharp to be good in philosophy.

Two years IN COLLEGE; high school is worthless.

Haha, really? In my perspective, Irvine is made up mostly of residential housing. The main areas are probably UCI, Irvine Spectrum, and areas around Culver St.

I never knew a school that didn't offer Japanese (Northern California).

What highschool did you go to? I didn't know highschools offered Japanese.

Fountain Valley High School. I think the only other HBUHSD HS that offered Japanese was Marina.

Various high schools (especially in Washington and Texas or something) are offering Chinese now too--starting at the elementary level, might I add!
