Is anyone here attending Irvine Valley College? I was wondering if it's a good school to transfer to UCLA.

Any community college with TAP is a good school to transfer to UCLA. But besides that, it really depends on how well you are capable of doing at the cc with your GPA and EC's. I know for sure that IVC should be great for transferring to UCI, my friend goes to IVC too.

Irvine Valley College is a really great community college. professors are friendly and classes tend to be fairly small. Also, they have good honors program that will help you transfer to UCLA. I heard u need 3.5 GPA to be admitted to honors program ( not too bad). Also, u need to complete 15 units worth of honors classes to be certified. some honors courses are easy-classes like psychology, econ, speech, and such

Do I need to be admitted into the honors program or TAP in order to transfer to UCLA? How is the campus like at IVC?

No, you can still apply to UCLA without TAP.

TAP is basically an honors program that gives you admission's priority in some schools such as Pomona College, UCLA, and UCI honors program. It does not guarentee you admissions into UCLA and those schools but it does give you a notification on your transcript showing recognition of TAP fulfillment (only if you have completed the TAG requirements).

As for the environment of IVC, I really don't know that much about it.

IVC student here! If your goal is to transfer to UCLA, then I greatly suggest that you finish the Honors Program. In order to be admitted to our Honors program, there are two ways:

First, if you're enrolling IVC from a high school, you need to have a 3.5 GPA and Writing 1 eligibility. You also need a letter of recommendation and a personal essay.

Second, wait until your second semester in IVC and apply. You only need a 3.25 GPA. But you still need a letter of recommendation and a personal essay.

For your information, two years ago we had 21/21 (100% acceptance rate) for TAP certified applicants to UCLA. Last year, we had 39/42 (93% acceptance rate), but the three had problems with their pre-reqs and their GPA was very minimum.

We also have a guaranteed honors transfer to UCI (Means you get guarantee admission + admission to UCI Honors Program), if you finished the Honors program.

The most amazing thing about IVC's Honors Program is that the director and the faculties are very supportive towards your goal and will help you in anyway they can. Most of the professors are awesome and will write you great letter of recommendation if you know them well. But take note that most of the classes here aren't easy and require lots of work (although in the end you will learn a lot).

IVC's campus is okay. The classrooms vary in size, depending on what classes are you taking. The cafetaria's food is expensive but we often have college events which give out free food.

Wow thanks for the information guys! ^^

ok,i have a question here:

im a senior in high school planning to atten IVC and hopefully transfering to UCLA.

My GPA (9-12) is horrible, lower than 2.0 (I know :O)

I want to get into the IVC honor program though, is there anything I can do?
What can I do right now to help me towards this goal?

Thanks for any help.

cr3sent, your post shed so much light!

@justjose i dont go to ivc, but with the honors program at my school(occ) if you dont have the required gpa from high school, you can just wait until the second semester to apply. Dont forget that you still need the requisite college gpa from your first semester there and the writing requirement. Also, i wouldnt be afraid to try and enroll in one of the honors classes your first semester(if you can because at my school they fill up fast).Try and easier course in the social science dept
