Is 17 credit hours too much?

My classes work out so that I either have 14 credits in the semester, or 17, depending on if I want to add one more. One credit is a fitness, so that's easy, and if I made it 17, it'd be with an online course, which are always easier just because of no mandatory attendance. Does this still make 17 credits (the max allowed) too much?

Depends on the courses but in general, yes.
Do not overload first semester.
common mistake of high achieving h.s. students still flexing their h.s. muscles.

I wouldn't, because keep in mind your first semester you'll be diving into all the clubs that are around, and figuring out what works and what doesn't. The fewer hours, the better. No one will look down on you, they'll envy you. Seriously.

Considering one of those hours is Lifetime Fitness, it shouldn't be too bad. I did 17 hours my first semester and didn't have a problem.

I have to agree with luxlibertas. I don't believe LFIT is going to take up an egregious amount of your time, so subtracting that hour, 16 hours is perfectly reasonable for your first semester. I took 17 hours my first semester and did fine.

I wan't to add physics(4hr) 116 to my schedule to total 18hrs, is this wise considering it is first semester?

for the average unc student, that would probably not be wise.

UNC please, you have to get a dean's permission to take more than 18 hours a semester I think...and it's highly unlikely you would get permission from a dean your first semester.

also, physics 116 is a really difficult class at UNC. you'll probably want to take it during a semester when the rest of your schedule is fairly light because you'll need to invest a lot of time in it.
