I am planning on taking 20 credits next semester. I am a sociology and social work major. A little more information on my situation: one of the classes I want to take is a 4 credit ONLINE social theory class. This is a intro class but I have already taken two higher level classes and know the theories that will be taught in this class so it should be a breeze. I also want to take a 1 credit athletic class. Essentially, in my mind this really just seems like I will be taking 15 serious credits. Is this possible to do with a job and 20 credits?
I wouldn’t say it’s impossible but how are your doing in your classes overall? If you are currently taking 15-18 credits and getting all As, you can probably handle the 20. If you are just getting by with your current workload, I am not sure I would add on more. Do you need to take this many to graduate on time or to fulfill pre-reqs? I guess I am wondering what is driving you to do this.
I am currently taking 17 credits in the second semester of my freshman year and I am getting mostly A’s and a few B’s, here and there. I think my drive is to fulfill credits and take pre-reqs to be able to take all the classes I am interested in (there are so many I would love to take and learn about). So I guess my drive it to learn as much as possible. I will also be double majoring with a minor so I guess I am just trying to get some of those core classes out of the way.
If you are handling 17 credits and feel like you have some time to handle more, I think you can probably do it. But be warned, it will be a lot of work. Your social life might be what takes the hit. Just make sure you don’t feel like you are sacrificing your happiness and ability to have a balanced life.
