I was wondering whether or not it is recommended that I do 5 AP classes in 10h grade year. I am doing AP Computer Science, AP Art History, AP Biology, AP Psychology, and AP Human Geography. At the same time I do a lot of volunteering, and service at the hospital and many other places. Also, I want to study for the Biology Olympiad, I work with my local community leaders extensively, and tutor children. At the same time as all of this, I have to study for the SAT!

As of right now I can opt out of AP comp sic, and AP art history. What would you guys recommend?

Hey I’m a sophomore taking 5 APs in school (in addition to self-studying a few).
How difficult are classes at your school? Have you taken any APs so far? What do smart upperclassmen say about the individual APs you’re taking? I think these are the determining factors in deciding whether you can handle 5 APs.
For me (I’m taking AP Calc BC, AP Human Geo, AP Physics 1, AP US History, and AP Chemistry): classes at my school are relatively easy compared to top high schools in the nation, I’ve taken APs in the past and found them to be exaggerated in terms of difficulty, and the APs I’m taking are definitely manageable.
Try doing the same analysis on yours.

I’m also a sophomore taking 5 APs and I’m self studying AP Chemistry. Yes, we need to focus on olympiads and SAT prep, but I honestly think we can do it! Just manage your time wisely and you will be golden.

Yes five is a little much. Art History and Biology are both book-heavy classes. If you plan on doing some ECs this year I’d drop AP AH and take it junior/senior year.

It depends on your school. At my school every AP class has AT LEAST 1 hour of homework EVERY DAY. So 5 AP classes would be a whopping 5 hour ordeal… on top of your other classes… My school gets out at 2:15. That would mean if you do a sport (2 hour practice) and a club/volunteering (about 1.5 hours a day) you would finish at school at 5:45ish, and then be doing AP homework past 11:00… then come any other classes. This is all with no breaks. So at my school it would be close to impossible to be successful… at your school it depends on how much time each class would take.
