I am planning to take 5 APs In my junior , my teachers say I am pushing myself … I have take 2 honors and 1 Ap this year and I was able to handle
These are my 5 APs
Ap Lang,
Ap cal AB
APUSh
APES
AP psych
I am thinking if I should drop psych should I ?
Obviously it varies from person to person (and school to school), but I think 5 APs should be manageable if you ration your time correctly. Out of these, APUSH and AP Calc AB tend to be reasonably difficult, while others like APES and AP Lang really depend on your school and the teacher.
For a lot of students? Yes.
For all students? No.
Teachers, parents, guidance counselor know you much better than we do. Seek out their advice.
It will be tough, but it’s something that many students do. AP Exams might be rough as well. I’ve taken all these, except I independent studied BC instead of taking AB.
AP Lang – this will be time consuming just because it’s a lot of writing.
AP Calc AB – this is teaching a semester-long college course in the full year, so I imagine that it won’t be as intensive, but it might be challenging for some students regardless.
APUSH – this is very time consuming, and you will be writing lots of DBQs and LEQs
APES – I think this is the easiest AP science class. At my school, it’s really easy and we do stuff like EdPuzzles, but it might vary. Overall, the concepts are pretty simple and it shouldn’t be that time consuming.
AP Psych – this is another of the “easier” APs. It’s almost like a mix of science, and it’s really interesting and a fun class. We don’t really do much writing!
If you were to drop something, I’d drop Psych just because you already have APUSH. However, you do have a mix of “easier” and “harder” APs, so taking 5 is possible as long as you manage your time adequately and stay organized.
Going from 2 honors+1AP to 5 APs seems risky. I’d drop AP psychology and plan on taking senior year if you’re interested (it’s considered an elective).
I’ll agree with people here that you should stay with 4 APs. If you are taking another history AP next year, then drop AP psych altogether. If you have only three years of history and are looking for a history + AP combinations for next year, take AP psych next year.
We are on a block schedule, and the school normally allows 2 AP classes each semester. D21 had a scheduling conflict so they allowed her to take 1 AP first semester, and 3 second semester. So 3/4 of her schedule is AP right now. It depends on the kid and on the teachers, but I can tell you it is kicking her butt right now. For reference she is 1/400 or so in her class, so no academic slouch. But she has said several times that this was a mistake, and it could cost her that #1 spot.
Different kids and different schools are different. But at our school I’m pretty sure no one can pull off 3 blocks of AP, a full slate of EC’s, and a reasonable amount of sleep in one semester.
