Is a 2.5 GPA good enough to transfer from MSJC to Cal State San Marcos

I'm getting confused the councilors and the admissions say I likely get in but why would so many people on this form say I would have a snowballs chance in hell of this happening are the admissions and counciling offices not being honest?

Bump I would really like someone to explain this to me

Bump again

The counselors I encountered at msjc, were not at all helpful to me. MSJC is a feeder school to San Marco so it’s a little easier to get in with a lower gpa.

It also depends heavily on your major, as well as how much prep you’ve done in your major. I won’t say you can get in for sure, but it’s possible, if you’ve done all the prereqs and completed the Golden 4.

Yes all my golden 4 is near completed just finish up French 102 and I’m done. I talked to my councilor and the admission office and they say the fact I’m local and applying to a non impacted major - Communications I’m good to go

<a href=“Office of Admissions | Admissions & Student Outreach | CSUSM”>Office of Admissions | Admissions & Student Outreach | CSUSM; says that CSU San Marcos is impacted, but upper division transfers from the local area (defined in that document, includes Mount San Jacinto College) will be admitted at CSU minimum eligibility (as listed, including 2.0 college GPA).

Note that the business, kinesiology, and nursing majors are impacted, so you need to apply again for admission to the major after enrolling (if you want to major in one of these, consider planning for an alternate major if you are not admitted to the desired major).

I plan to go into communications and the major is not impacted thank you

Counselors at MSJC are pretty awful, they advised me to take a class that wasn’t even transferable and told me I couldn’t get into UCB or UCLA… 2.5 is not great but since CSUSM is a feeder school I’d say your chances are pretty high!

Yeah, 2 MSJC counselors told me I had no shot at UCLA. They told me to I needed to be there for 3 years to boost my GPA enough. I finished in 3 semesters, and I got into ucla. They’re such a joke over there. I had really good instructors, but the counseling department is not to be trusted,

Nice! Yeah… maybe that is why so few MSJC kids transfer to UCLA/Cal… I almost didn’t apply so I wouldn’t “waste” the 70 dollars.

If I remember correctly, LESS than 1% of ALL Ca CC Students were able to transfer to UCLA and Cal.

However, not all CC students intend to transfer to a four year school.

From my experience it is a lot of kids just drop out. Not getting classes, Family, Work or simply not caring

With a 2.5 GPA you can get into any CSU except CSULB, Cal Poly SLO, Maybe Ponoma, and SDSU. Everything else will be a home run.

Yes, you can get into San Marcos. I go to MSJC now and also have a 2.5 GPA. I am still planning to go to UC Davis. It really comes down to extracurricular activities and everything else. You have to make yourself sound good. Oh, and sometimes the counselors don’t know what they are talking about, but if you are an honors student or in a special program they are a lot better.
