Is a 28 on Science ACT too low for prestigious colleges?

I read that Midwestern Universities prefer the ACT over the SAT. Is that true?

If so, should I go retake the ACT? (The only midwestern college I intend on applying to is Washington University In St. Louis, which ironically, is my top choice)

My ACT score is:

Composite - 33
English - 35
Math - 36
Reading -34
Science- 28
Essay - 11

Now before everyong starts screaming, I don't need to take it again, let me clarify my reasons.

I intend on applying for the merit scholarships at WUSTL, and since academics is what comes easiest to me, I need to make sure that standardized testing is as high as possible.

I just think that my science section is too low for a school like WUSTL, especially since it's a very science research oriented place, with the med program and all.

I also posted this in the WUSTL forum, but thought Id get additional insights here

pity party

no school is going to look at your individual section scores anyway

really stop worrying..youre going to college, i mean community college isnt that bad right?

Yes , you should retake the ACT, as your science score is what brought your composite score down.

Don't know what your other qualifications are, but a 33 would be low for merit $$ at WashU.

well I have a 2330 on the SAT, but wouldnt wustl rather have ACT?

No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you got a 2330 on the SAT, they won't even look at your 33 ACT. That score is so much better. Personally, I wouldn't even send the ACT score. You don't want them to have a reason to doubt your competence. Also, unless Wash U say, "We only accept the ACT" (which I know they don't), they accept the SAT. So stick with your SAT score!!!

Lol 2330? Bad1017 said it perfectly. Don't even THINK about sending that ACT score. Do useful stuff :)

2330 is great. Now, if WUSTL is REALLY your first choice, then APPLY ED. You GREATLY increase your chances that way!!. They LOVE to put qualified students who DIDN'T apply ED on the wait list.

I can't afford ED, because I need grants...and we know that ED students get less money =/

Well if you are at least commended on the PSAT, which I assume, you get to pick 2 top universities as your first and second choices. Pick WUSTL for one, WUSTL is probably one of those schools that tracks interest like that.

WUSTL would NOT rather want an ACT score just cuz it's in the midwest. It's not a regional school. Today majority of kids apply from east/west coast

From what I've found, the ACT is more common in the midwest, but there is no preference among top colleges; the SAT is more common in the west. I live in southern California and the ACT isn't even offered in my town.
