Is a 3.5 gpa and a 29 on Act good for these schools

I was wondering if a 3.5 gpa and a 29 on the act will be good enough to get into schools like

Syracuse university
University of Miami
University of Michigan
University of Virginia
University of Maryland
Tulane University

Syracuse university-Match
University of Miami-Reach
University of Michigan-Reach if OOS
University of Virginia-Reach

Tulane University-Reach

what does reach mean

Reach means not likely to be admitted but you may have a chance if your EC’s and recs are outstanding. Your stats put you in the buttom 25% of admitted students at reach schools.

For UMich, 3.5 gpa and a 29ACT in state doesn’t make it either.

Cabreraj, I think you need to become acquainted with a document called a “common data set.” Most colleges and universities publish one every year. They always have the same format; that’s what’s “common” about them.

In Section C of the common data set, a college or university reports data on freshman admissions. In Section C, subsection 7, they give data on their currently enrolled freshman class: how many applied, how many were admitted, what were the 75th and 25th percentile scores on SAT or ACT for currently enrolled freshmen, what fraction of the freshman class were in the top 10% (or top quarter or top half) of their high school graduating class, etc.

For most colleges and universities, it’s pretty easy to find a recent common data set. Just google the name of the college, together with the phrase “common data set.” Once you retrieve the common data set, you can usually get a pretty good idea for yourself whether your stats measure up to those of currently enrolled freshmen.

If you don’t live in Virginia, then you really don’t have a chance at UVA with those stats.

Students can easily look up the stats themselves using the search tool here on CC or the college navigator [College Navigator - National Center for Education Statistics](College Navigator - National Center for Education Statistics).
