Is a car needed at Ball State?

Hi Everyone. I am trying to be really pragmatic when helping my S (rising junior) put together his college list. There is so much about Ball State that seems really amazing. However, we live on the West Coast and were wondering if a car is needed. It looks like you would fly into Indianapolis which looks to be 60 miles away. Are there shuttles? That’s a pretty long Uber ride. Trains? Of course that is to and from the airport. Is a car needed to get around as well? I really appreciate any insight any of you have. Thanks so much.

Hi @boxerdogmom There are airport shuttle available to and from campus. A car is not necessary especially since freshman parking is quite a way from campus.

Thank you so much @Onourown. I really appreciate the information.

My D spent 4 years there and about the only time she used hers was hen she drove home. Occasionally they’d drive over to places to eat but you can walk to most of those. And the shuttles work OK to and from the airport.

Or since I live an hour from BSU, I’d be happy to pick your son up and take him from the airport to campus!

A car is definitely not needed. We highly recommend BSU. Our sophomore cannot wait to go back next week.

Thanks @jeffandann for the helpful information and incredible offer. Ball State sounds great and it’s good to know that if my son were to go there, he would not need a car.
