Is a computer science dual major with film possible? Or perhaps a minor?

Im an incoming freshmen accepted into the Computer Science program at Viterbi, but I have a passion for film that I just have to explore at USC. The website says the cinematic arts minor is open to students from all schools, but I have a lot of experience with film classes and projects in high school and I think I’m looking for something a little more in-depth and specialized. I am considering the Digital Studies minor, but I don’t know whether or not it’s an even an option to pursue along with a CS major. I’m also really interested in the Animation and Digital Arts Minor, which I would have to apply for as a freshman at USC.

Secondly, it might be a long shot (especially due to lack of available space in my curriculum with my major reqs to think about), but is there any way posibility of double majoring in Computer Science and a program like Media Arts + Practice? I love film as much as I love computer science and since USC has such great programs in both fields I’m very very eager to get involved.

Does anyone know anybody who has done such a thing or is in a similar situation as me? Any and all input is appreciated!!

Fight on people

My son is a CS (Games) major with a Game Audio minor (from Cinematic Arts). Between his AP credits and taking 17-18 credits a semester he is able to squeeze it in. But, honestly, he’s exhausted and stressed. I’m not sure you will be able to have a second major without going a fifth year.

@GamerGal27 Thank you for your reply, that’s discouraging to hear :frowning: Do you know if your son’s two programs shared some overlap?

@adshah They do have some overlap but in order to obtain the minor there must be at least 16 credits that do not overlap. I’m not sure what the rule is for a second major.
