Is a Guaranteed Transfer considered an acceptance or a rejection?

I got a Guaranteed Transfer decision from BU today. I was not upset but rather conflicted. I am still considered a part of the class of 2022 but just not for freshman year.

I was speaking to my friends and family and they said that this decision still counts as an acceptance, but I’ve noticed students online consider it a rejection… What do you all think? In conversation, could I still say that I was accepted to BU?

I am really sorry if this seems like a pretentious or stupid question, I just do not want to come off the wrong way in a discussion…

Those offered guaranteed sophomore transfer are not part of the 22% accepted. You have been rejected for freshman entry to BU.

While you are guaranteed entry as a sophomore if you follow the rules you have no idea what the financial aid will be so you may not be able to afford BU. Also, whatever college you enroll in for freshman year you will not likely get involved in, make friends etc. because you have this plan to leave already as you enter.

@TomSrOfBoston I don’t think I will accept the GT but I was just curious what this would fall under (an acceptance or rejection). I think if I am ever asked I will just say I was given this option for a transfer but rejected for the freshman class. Thanks.

There is no harm in accepting the guaranteed offer. It is not binding. You can keep it as an option if you don’t like the college you attend. But do not go into that college with the notion that you will be transferring.

@TomSrOfBoston Good point! I will make sure to enroll at a college that I would love to attend but keep BU as a side option.

@TomSrOfBoston What if I decided to change my major, is the guaranteed offer still valid?
