Is a minor in psychology worth it?

I am an international student from India who wishes to pursue Comp. Science as a major. I am very interested in psychology but decided against majoring in it because of the lack of job opportunities but I considered taking it up as a minor since I believed it might help me pursue AI as a career option or open up possibilities for a probable Graduate degree in Psychology. So is a minor in psych worth it or just a waste of resources and time?

It is worth it if you are interested in psychology and will expand your mind and breadth of knowledge. A minor will not prepare you for grad school in and of itself but if you decided to go that route, you would at least have a base in psychology and wouldn’t be starting from scratch to build the academic credentials for grad schoool in psychology.

Sure, if you enjoy the study of psychology then a minor might be worth it, especially if you want to keep your options open for the future. However, if you have to spend extra semesters in college to get that minor than you will have to take this costs into account when deciding if a minor is “worth it.”. You can always take a handful of psych classes without declaring a formal minor.

If you want a grad degree in psychology, you should major in it. There are plenty of job opportunities for someone who majored in psych in undergrad; you just have to think outside the box a little.

Sure, a minor in psych can be worth it. You don’t have to minor - you can just take classes. But this is really very dependent upon your own interests. Comp sci + psych is great for someone interested in AI.
