Is a minor worth the extra workload?

I’m in a bit of a dilemma. I am majoring in secondary education/English communications, and I’m looking to minor in technical writing. I planned out my next few semesters, and to complete my major and minor, I would have to take 18 credits over the next two semesters and 21 the semester after that (unless I get a course substitution for one of the required classes, which would bring me back down to 18).

Now, would the minor be worth the 18-credit semesters and the possible 21-credit one? I have done well with the average 15-credit semesters and think 18 will be ok, but for a minor, is it worth it?

Essentially a degree in secondary education with a concentration in English is like having a major (education) and a minor (English). I would not worry about an additional minor.

D got her BFA in studio art as an undergrad. She considered taking a minor, but instead decided to take classes she really enjoyed and could use in her art. So she took about 12 elective credits in SFX (makeup) and another 12 in vocal performance. She has done installations that incorporate sound and sculptures that are painted using SFX techniques.

Having a minor on your transcript is not necessary.

No. The skills/information you can learn are, but the actual minor itself is not worth very much.
