Everyone I know who have gone to 7/2 orientation(3 people...) signed up for WRT 101 or 102.
and when I look over the typical course selections for w/e major, it usually list WRT courses for the first 2 semester.

Is WRT course required to be taken for the first semester? or can I put it off until later times?

Yes that’s perfectly fine. I took it in the summer after my freshman year, and my friend is taking it right now in the summer after his sophomore.

Just a note, WRT was one semester for me since I got level 4 on the writing test and just took the 1-semester WRT 102. If you get level 3, it’ll be two semesters since you’ll take WRT 101 and WRT 102.

Just some advice, I would take it in the summer if you can. Lot less work (just the standard 3 required essays) instead of taking an entire drawn-out semester of BS as opposed to 6 weeks in the summer. For me it was pretty useless as I knew how to write already, but if English is not your first language then you need to work at it.

You could put it off, but keep in mind that other courses may require you to have completed the writing requirement before moving forward (like other DEC courses). It’s a basic course, which is why most folks take it first semester.

I heard they’re wavering off the WRT 101 for transfer students.
I’m a transfer myself, gonna be sophomore and I haven’t taken any English class back in my old university.
I registered for WRT102
Don’t know if this applies to incoming freshmen though

The only exception is if you did take an English composition class at an approved transfer-credit univ. then yes it can be waived but other than that nope. My friend thought she would get it waived cause she got a 4 or 5 on the AP English test, but that only placed her automatically in Level 4 (she didn’t have to submit the writing placement essay) and she still had to take it.

thx
that’s great news!
For the first time in years, I don’t have to do any writing for a year!

Good writing is always a skill that you should have. You wouldn’t believe the errors I have seen correcting many essays that my friends gave me to check!

just to let you all know, if you were waived for WRT 101 and told that you will be in WRT 102 for freshman fall 2009, it is FULL. the class reached its capacity only recently. Unless you are a major in Business or Journalism, you WILL have to take WRT 102 in the spring. bummer =/
