This is my first CC post so please bear with me...

I submitted my University of Texas at Austin application last night and after I submitted it showed me a screen with other admission requirements that were needed.
Here's my problem:
The registrar at our school had taken a leave of absence and did not return until yesterday. My transcripts were not sent out until today. Although they were overnighted and will arrive in Texas Saturday at the latest (I'm from California), the rule on the website says, "Must arrive at the admissions office by the December 1st deadline"

I called the admissions office and the operator was very rude and did not help my predicament at all. He basically told me to just wait it out and see. My question for you CCers is: should I just withdraw my app if my transcripts won't get to the office on time?

To what purpose? If they cancel your app then you didn’t need to withdraw it. If they don’t then you just screwed yourself.

So basically, there isn’t hope that they could still review my app for admission?

Agree, there’s nothing to be gained by withdrawing your application now. Hold tight and see what happens. With a Dec 1 deadline, the admissions office is crazy right now, give it a few days and try calling them again.

Also, go to the UT Austin forum here on CC and ask if anyone knows how strict they are about the deadline.

No, that’s not what he said.

Okay great. Thank you both so much for your feedback.

And I know what you’re saying about the chaos in the office. It literally took me 35 tries to finally make it through to an operator.

I’m afraid that this does not sound great, see post #5:

I would perhaps recommend seeing if the registrar from your HS would give them a call in a couple of days and explain the situation. I don’t know the circumstances of the leave of absence, but UT might still hold you to the deadline since you had a long time to have the transcript sent and it seems unlikely that someone in your HS couldn’t have sent it in time to meet the deadline if you had planned sufficiently.

Don’t lose hope, but be prepared either way. Good luck.

Thats what I was afraid of. I talked with our LD and she told me that it would be fine if it was postmarked today, but she assumed UT had same policy as other colleges.

Well thank you. I guess I just have to keep my fingers crossed that UT has some mercy on me.
